The Mythic Forest

We are thinking beings that can anticipate the future and remember the past. Prehistoric survival was not a Garden of Eden, but very difficult. Anyone who reached an elder age tried to teach the younger members of the family/tribe their experience around the campfire at night and the use of mythological symbology made it easier to teach young people by simplifying fears and successes (the wrath of the gods and heroes) through story and song. Today, we are rapidly peeling away the layers of fear with new knowledge at a rate never before heard of.

Gary R. Viner (64) who passed earlier this year, and upon
whose insights, Zygoz was born.

His last work, in his book, The Mythic Forest, Viner investigates the origins and myths surrounding The Green Man. In this excerpt from a review by Alice Berger, she examines the history that underpins the research of Gary Viner in his book.

Who is the Green Man? “The image of the Green Man is that of a foliated head, a face with vines and leaves sprouting from the mouth, eyes and nose, the hair and beard formed, as well, from leaves and twigs. The image may be stern and almost frightening, or a beguiling face peering out of a wealth of vegetation. The Green Man represents the creation of all plant life and its continued renewal.” (p.85). But where and why did these images originate, and how have they evolved over the years? The Muse Book Review: The Mythic Forest Reviewed by Alice Berger

Berger also touches on Viner’s research into the gods and mythical characters surrounding the Green Man. These include an affinity with vegetation, springtime resurrection, and abundant harvest. She goes on to postulate that “the Green Man has been with us for several thousand years, but why does humankind keep creating his image? Maybe to remind us of our connection with nature, and our responsibility to make sure the forests and vegetation continue to thrive??”

In modern times we have seen the Green Man appear as motifs in architecture – from banks to brownstone houses in New York, and in many interior designs in urban environments. The close association with trees and forests is also a recurring thread in Green Man mythology, spawning a variety of legends, practices and beliefs in pre-Christian times.

In The Mythic Forest, Gary Viner alludes to the gods of Nature and the folklore of trees, expressed in the legends, beliefs and practices that define the history of the Green Man.  He suggests that this unbroken depiction of the Green Man, as representing the forces of Nature through the ages, is not only a tribute to the creative nature of human imagination, but one that indicates an innate connection to Nature, since civilisation began.

It is this link between humankind and Nature that inspired a tribute to the Green Man in the corporate identity of Zygoz Equity Partners. And, it is the hope for a brighter future, that is the continuum of the spirit of the Green Man in our focus to support innovation and technologies helping people and the planet.

The persistence of the Green Man in the iconography of humankind through the ages, suggests a shared origin, and a link in human culture to Nature that has survived over time.
What this recurring theme suggests is that we are inseparable from Nature, and indeed have a responsibility to our Planet, if we are to survive as a species.

In this quote from Rebecca Campbell, Author of Light is the New Black, she most eloquently describes the human dilemma:

‘With the planet in the state that it is, we cannot continue in the way we have been.  Mother Earth is calling forth a new awakening of the consciousness in order for us to survive on this magnificent planet we call home.  A shift from aggression to compassion , from fear to love, from separateness to oneness, from unquestioned dogma to faith, from left brain to right, from war to peace, from force to flow, from unconsciousness to consciousness, from fact to truth and from unquestioned linear processes to lateral solutions”.

It is something that each and every one of the team in ZyGoz Equity Partners, subscribes to. The difference is that we are on a mission to actualise these lofty ideals and get down to the business of doing something, in the belief that the power of thought and innovation … can change our world.

Help People and the Planet

This week’s blog is focused on getting our act together. All of us!

By finding out how we can help each-other, whilst helping People and the Planet.

And by asking you to be a partner, by bringing your ideas, or your money - to make a real difference.

We’ll put it all together and make it happen.
By ‘we’ I mean the team at Zygoz Equity Partners, my human friends who really do care about making a change where it matters most. I am so proud that they chose my name to appeal to caring people everywhere who want to do something REAL and not just chirp about what’s wrong!

My ancestors have imbued me with the same spirit that possessed them – ‘The Spirit of Humanity’!

I am not just a figment of the imagination, I AM YOUR CONSCIENCE! I am the guardian of all that is good in Nature, and I am here to be your guide. To ensure that we use your technology, your innovations and your money wisely … to build a better world. So don’t expect any ‘Ra-Ra’ blogs from me. I am a do-do kinda guy and I am on your case!

In truth, there are other hopeful signs out there.

President Macron and Prime Minister Trudeau are joining forces to fight the big demon Climate Change.  And yes, Portugal produced 103% of its energy from renewables in March, and China is spending 3 times as much as the US on renewable energy

By 2020 EVs will be cheaper than conventional cars and Stella McCartney is making a stand on the wasteful practices of the international fashion industry. With less than 1% of its discarded clothing being recycled, and with plastic micro-fibres from washing clothes, contributing massively to ocean pollution, it cannot be ignored!

I get it – except, it’s seems so remote from our everyday lives!

That’s where I come in. I believe that it’s the small things that count too. The dreams of socially conscious and environmentally sensitive entrepreneurs who INNOVATE AT SOURCE! Whose ideas can change the world and who together, represent a significant force to shape our path to a brighter future.

From urban vertical agriculture, to small-scale solar power generation for millions of rural communities without electricity – these are the things that excite us. Real, ‘do-it’ stuff you can touch and feel – even eat! Small, compared to the development of electric cars perhaps – but massive at scale! It has always been the ideas and courage of a few, which has changed the world for many!

That’s where our focus lies at Zygoz Equity Partners. We want new ideas and emerging technologies that can ‘help people and the planet’, that need early stage finance/investment. You bring the ideas – we organise the money. Or, you bring the money and we will match it to best-of-breed, emerging technologies. Give us some feedback please!

Here are 5 questions that matter:

Do you, or anyone you know, have an idea/product/ process in development, which is designed to help ‘people and the planet’?
Do you manage investments for clients interested in such projects?
Are you seeking development funding for your own, or client project(s)?
Would you invest in ideas that create a better world for future generations?
Would you like to join our team of investment Partners and make a difference?

Interbeing

Renowned author and speaker Chris Eisenstein says that:

“The healing of our planet will not come without love for our planet. It certainly won’t come from technological solutions that seek to more competently deploy resources and manage consequences. That is the path toward biofuel plantations, nuclear power plants, and geoengineering schemes that threaten catastrophic consequences”.

Eisenstein says that, “These questions arise naturally in the story that Thich Nhat Hanh named ‘interbeing’, that holds us as interdependent on every level - even that of basic existence."

In the story of ‘interbeing’, what happens to anything, happens in some way to everything.

In this blog, Zygoz, invites you to share his passion for a brave new world in which people are more caring of this precious gift of life, of this beautiful planet that sustains us, by focusing on the positives, on what we can do to create a better world, rather than the grim picture of the future that is pervasive in our media, we can make a difference.

These are the questions explored in ‘Notes on the Meaning of the Earth’ by acclaimed philosopher Jacob Needleman.
Writing about Needleman’s views, commentator Corey DeVos observes that:

“The evolution of our planet depends upon the evolution of our species. We have created enormously complex challenges for ourselves and for our World - challenges that require an entirely new level of intuition and problem-solving. Now more than ever we need to integrate our hearts with our minds … and our souls with our senses. We are called to seek a new synthesis of knowledge and wisdom for the 21st century, an embodied understanding of ourselves and our World.”

The ZygozBLOG subscribes to the reality that we do not have decades in hand, nor generations to waste, or minds to leave unchanged while the Earth dies under our feet, and we do nothing. We have to change how we think today, about the human condition, so that we will have the best possible outcomes in the future. A future that is not in some distant place, but one that is just around the corner.

We need to change, before the Earth can change. We need to confront an unjust, ecocidal system, and find ways to change the human footprint to be more in-synch with Nature. Collectively, we have the power to change the world. This is at the heart of our mission.

We are entering a time of great uncertainty. We are all in this together. It is time for positive thinking, for joining our hearts and our minds, and making peace with our Planet ...
